Not able to keep superscript numbers of endnotes when cut and paste many documents together

14 chapters with endnotes and bib need to be put into one long document with endnotes but only one bib. In trying to rid the bib and cutting and pasting I now have lots of random lines, (that don't remove when using view draft), blank pages with lines above every page, and only one number for each superscript beyond chapter 1!!!!
This is a thesis and is very important, please help. I have Windows 10 home version and zotero (not sure version)
  • that really doesn't sound like a Zotero issue - Zotero just tells Word to create Endnotes - the actual formatting is Word's.
  • Would trying to decode cause a lot of this? My son thought it would be easier to decode before removing the bibs then cut and paste??
  • When I first tried to cut and paste and remove the bib it would just say something like this function can not be done in endnotes and then I wouldn't be able to delete. that is why he tried to get out of that coding system to allow me to delete. Each deleted page of bib created a blank page with long line at top. I am still having trouble removing the "paragraph" markings to remove lines b/c it states Unable to perform in endnotes.
  • what do you mean by "decode"? Remove field codes in Zotero?
That wouldn't have any impact on this, no. It just makes it even less likely that this is in any way Zotero related. (I'm not sure I understand how you'd get a single bibliography if you remove fieldcodes before pasting chapters together, though).

I'm sorry we can only be of limited assistance here, but formatting in Word is a mess and it's different with every version of Word and there's just no way we can provide MS Word support.
  • I appreciate your help. Yes decode did refer to field codes in Zotero. We did this because we couldn't delete the bib without doing this. I already have composed a single bib for the entire paper using zotero. So I will paste that on last.I just needed the individual bibs gone.

Thanks anyway. Is there a forum of this sort for MS?
  • There are many sources of support for MS Word. However, many seem to be more lists of complaints. Just do a Google search for Microsoft Word support.

You didn't tell us your operating system (Windows, Mac) but I suspect that you will feel much less pain with your next project if you switch to LibreOffice. It is a free and excellent software package. It is easy to learn -- almost instinctive. It works beautifully with Zotero.
  • I don't know where you are, but many universities - especially in the US - have general IT help-desks that may be able to assist with issues like that - having someone who can actually look at your document is always your top choice.

Unfortunately DWL is right that a lot of forums dedicated to MS and MS Office support have a very low signal to noise ratio.
