[MLZ] Any reason Court of Appeals and S.Ct. are missing in the built-in options for {:jurisdiction}?

1. Is there any reason the Court of Appeals and S.Ct. are missing in the built-in options for Extra {:jurisdiction} field?

2. What is the recommended way of populating the fields for defunct courts (e.g., the Court of Customs and Patent Appeals)?
  • The tables don't provide complete coverage, and they can be expanded on demand. Eventually we'll need a proper process, but for now, if you post a list of desiderata I can stir them in.
  • Also, the {:jurisdiction:us} workaround has gone away in the latest version of MLZ: the latest client version has proper fields for Jurisdiction and the other added values. The upgrade is not performed automatically, because it breaks database compatibility with Zotero: you'll need to reinstall to get the latest version. Unless you have a particular reason for sticking with the old one, the new client is much nicer to work with.
  • I wasn't aware that the latest version needed manual update. Will the existing CSL files be compatible with the newest MLZ? I've put in a lot of effort in tweaking a few CSL files.
  • I looked at the visualEditor again today, and I think I can get a CSL-m version online soon, possibly even tomorrow.

I managed to get a modified version of the visualEditor to come up with CSL-m styles, but unfortunately it is not going to be useable. There are two problems. One is that the CSL-m styles have very deep conditional nesting. This is an exceptional burden to the editor, and it runs very slowly. The other problem, I suspect, is that the large controlled list of jurisdictions consumes a lot resources for the editor. This (or some other issue related to the CSL-m language schema) causes the editor to crash during edits.

The first priority will be to simplify the code for the styles. I have a few ideas on how that might be done, and the styles should get easier to work with by degrees over the next year or so. The visualEditor, though, will be off the table for this category of styles, at least for the present.

(Sorry, this note really should have gone into another thread.)
