Microsoft Word 2004 on Mac won't open with zotero plugins

I just added the plug ins for zotero to microsoft word. I can now open a new document and the zotero buttons show up, but I can't open any of the previously created word files on my computer. Every time I try, word freezes up. Please help, this is a bit of an emergency.

    The word plugin should not effect your previous documents. You might try disabling the word plugin. To disable the word plugin look for "Templates & Add-ins" under the tools dropdown menu. Then just try disabling the plugin.
