Zotero doesn't store PDF files with proxy enabled (Firefox)

Hello,

When I want to store a PDF in a Zotero library, the storage seems to fail.

Here is how I proceed :
– In Firefox 19, I click on a link to download a PDF (for instance the “Supplementary Text and Figures (627K)” at the bottom of that page: http://www.nature.com/nbt/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nbt.2515.html)
– The download window appears and propose me several options. I choose “Save to Zotero”.
– And the PDF appears in my Zotero collection.

Ok, so if everything works, why am I complaining? Because when I'm (automatically) redirected to my university proxy (so the URL becomes http://www.nature.com.docproxy.univ-lille1.fr/nbt/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nbt.2515.html), the same process doesn't work anymore. The “Saving link” tooltip appears but the PDF never does so.

The debug ouput tells me that:

(5)(+0000000): SELECT itemID FROM collectionItems WHERE collectionID=? AND itemID NOT IN (SELECT itemID FROM itemNotes WHERE sourceItemID IS NOT NULL) AND itemID NOT IN (SELECT itemID FROM itemAttachments WHERE sourceItemID IS NOT NULL)

(5)(+0000000): Binding parameter 1 of type int: 36

(5)(+0000002): SELECT COUNT(*) FROM deletedItems WHERE itemID=?

(5)(+0000000): Binding parameter 1 of type int: 2760

(3)(+0000000): Item 2760 already a child of collection 36 in Zotero.Collection.addItem()

(2)(+0000366): Downloaded PDF did not have MIME type 'application/pdf' in Attachments.importFromURL()

(3)(+0000000):

My university proxy may add messy stuff in the response (however downloading on my hard drive for instance works fine). So I looked with Firebug at the response headers with and without the proxy. There is no difference. In both cases (except the date, of course), they are:

I think that feature used to work with this proxy.
  • Are you perhaps doing this in conjunction with Zotero Standalone?
  • No, I don't have it.

I'll take a closer look. Unfortunately, I am currently at my university, so things work even without proxy. might have to wait to get home.

Could you provide a Report ID starting from when you click ok in the save dialog? http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs
  • Hi I have the same issue - I am using Firefox 19.0.2 and Zotero 3.0.14 (add on). In my old institution, I can always get the PDF with a simple click and I can view it when I right-clicked on the name of the reference, under 'open in external viewer' ( typically I used Foxit). However, in my new institution, it routes to pubmed/Publisher site via proxy, and now only the link and the reference is saved but not the PDF. Can you help me to resolve it? Thanks!
  • This is unrelated. Please start a new thread. See http://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues We need to know the URL you're looking at and a Report ID

Have you tried with your other Firefox extensions disabled (specifically HTTPS-Everywhere)?
  • When disabling all the extensions (apart from Zotero!), the problem is still there.
  • Hello there . )

when I click to download an article found in the online library a dialog box comes up and also has an option to save to zotero
when I click that option another dialog box shows up saying "you must first install the PDF tools in the Zotero preference"

    how do I do that?

    best regards : )
    r
  • it should automatically take you there, but if it doesn't, those tools are in the "Search" tab of the Zotero preferences - there is a button "Check for Installer"
    user that

  • The note in the Save dialog doesn't take you there automatically (though the message should be adjusted to mention the Search pane).
