Capitalization Problems

I just installed Zotero Standalone on a Mac (running OS X) and am having a capitalization problem when I insert Bibliographies into a Word 2011 document.

Specifically, when I have tried to insert MLA and Chicago style bibliographies, the resulting bibliographies do not automatically capitalize the first letters of titles.

In the Zotero database, the letters use sentence capitalization -- but I thought that MLA and Chicago styles would automatically capitalize the titles.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall MLA but it hasn't helped.

I would rather not have to go through the database and manually capitalize titles.

Thoughts on why this is happening? How I can fix it?

  • As I said on twitter, this should generally work for both MLA and Chicago and we in fact strongly recommend that you keep your titles in sentence case.

Could you provide an example here? Could you check what it says in the "Language" field of one item that doesn't capitalize the title?
What language is your Zotero in (i.e. what language are the menus in etc.)?
  • I'm drawing my citations from WorldCat -- the language of the sources is in English and the menus are in English.

Here's a screenshot of my Word file with both citations and a bibliography (in Chicago): pic.twitter.com/rqnzitIhUd
  • That's a bug, I thought we had that fixed:
You'll need to either delete the "Language" field in Zotero or shorten it to "en" (Zotero checks the language field so it doesn't capitalize non-English titles).
I'll see if we can get you a quick fix for this. If you have a couple of days you can just leave your data alone - this _should_ work with anything starting with "en" (regardless of case) in the language field.

@fbennett - could you take a look? We import language in non-ISO format from a lot of pages, so this is pretty high priority.
  • It's no rush for me; thanks.

  • This should be fixed in the processor now.
You can either wait until the next version of Zotero comes out, or install this plugin: http://gsl-nagoya-u.net/http/pub/zotero-processor.xpi
you should uninstall that once Zotero updates.
