How to make Zotero track pdf file changes within the library

I'm using computer to read the literature, and frequently I'll annotate the pdf with preview(Mac OS app for viewing files, supports pdf annotation). Recently when I'm using my pdf files on a new computer, I found that all my annotations are gone, which means that none of them are synced ever. Thus I'm a little bit frustrated. I wonder if zotero does track the file changes inside the library at all. And if it doesn't, how to make it work?

    Zotero does not keep version history, but just the most recent version. You can click on "My Library" on the top of this page to check the items in your online library and when they have been added and last edited.
