Data not found ("Datei nicht gefunden")

Hello!

Me an my partner work on a mutual project and share one group on Zotero. We each use our own laptops. Now we are facing a serious problem. If one of us uploads a file into our group the other one is not able to open it on his laptop and vice versa. If I try to open a file, which I did not upload myself, a message appears that says "Data not found, the attached file could not be found. It might be moved out of zotero or deleted" (loosely translated from the german "Datei nicht gefunden. Die angehängte Datei konnte nicht gefunden werden. Es könnte sein, dass sie außerhalb von Zotero verschoben oder gelöscht wurde.").

What is the reason for that issue and is there any solution?

Thanks for any help!

Kind regards,
Anna Baumann
  • Thank you Dan!
The file is synced properly with the server. I can get it from the server. But I still can´t access it from my computer. Zotero doesn´t tell anything about sincing problems. I´m scared to reset the file Sync history (what the text you linked me suggests).
As we both have the problem, I don´t trust in resetting to solve the problem. Do you have any other ideas?

    Anna
  • Reset File Sync History is harmless. Just don't use the other reset options.
  • Ok, then we will try that after our next backup on thursday!
  • Hi again!
Reset File Sync History didn´t help. I wonder why we both have the same problem. Are there any other things we can try?
    Thank You
    Anna
  • See the bottom of the Files Not Syncing page.
  • The Debug ID is D1682849586

    thank you for the patience...
  • That doesn't appear to be the first sync after a Reset File Sync History.

I am not shure if I translated the instructions correctly and did the right thing, I ask to be on the save side:

Choosing the zotero sync pane I can choose the options file syncing - resetting the history - that is what I did ("The File Sync History has been cleared").
Secondly there is "zotero sync server" restoring options (what I did not do).

I tried it again (resetting), the new Debug ID is D860148439
  • That's right, but it doesn't look to me like the Debug ID you're providing is for the first sync after doing the Reset File Sync History. Are you? To be sure, enable debug output logging, perform the reset, and then click the sync button. Then when it's done, submit the output.
  • Here comes a new debug ID... This time the syncing took a liddle longer, but the original problem still exists...
    The Debug ID is D1789736740.
  • Do you have syncing of group files enabled in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences?
  • Hi again! I have been sick, now I´m back to care about our problem.

You were right, we didn´t enable syncing of group files... so stupid. Thank you.
Now we have the next problem, probably as stupid as the last one, but we can´t work it out: If we Synce, zotero tells us, we don´t have enough storage and would need to purchase new storage. The owner of the group could get new storage.
I´m the owner of the group and my Quota is 2 GB. But my "Current Storage Plan" only shows my library (50.4MB), and I assume our group is not included.
What is wrong? Doesn´t my storage enlarge the storage of the group library? Why not?

    "Warning:

  • You're not the owner of the group. You're just an admin. The group owner can transfer ownership in the group settings.
  • That´s it! Now it works perfectly! Thank you very much!
