Where is Zotero info saved?

I just downloaded Zotero and I'm starting to get the hang of it. But I was wondering, where is my research going to be saved? To a server, or to a file on my computer that will be lost if my computer crashes?

    All your references are stored locally. See the FAQ. If you use the Sync Preview version your references will also be backed up to the Zotero server.

    Thanks! I knew that it probably said so on the site somewhere, but I got bogged down in all the new info and couldn't find it.
