(Re)Organizing Collections/Items

Here's my problem: I've re-imported my collection of documents and notes into Zotero a couple of times. Each time I do that it puts everything that I have imported under a collection heading liked "Imported on such and such a date". What I want to do however is to get rid of these superfluous collections and put everything under my normal collection titles. But I am unable to move items out of these collections so that it is safe to delete them.

In fact, the whole "presence" of individual items now seems a bit confusing to me. Items appear in multiple collections in zotoreo. For instance, items that I have imported and appear in the "Imported on such and such date" collection also appear in the My Library collection, even if the "Imported on such and such a date" folder is not a subfolder. So then it is unclear where the item actually "exists"? And what would it mean to delete it one or the other collection? Would it totally disappear?

    My Library shows you all the items you have collected. To reiterate, the My Library icon shows you every single item, including all the items in your imported collections. Most likely, your issue with dragging items has to do with the fact that those items are already in the destination collection. For example, since all your items are in MY Library whenever you try to drag an item into My Library it will fail, because it is already there. Feel free to rename, or create new collections for your imported items. Whatever you do to them the items you imported will still be inside My Library.
