There is the possibility to associate a discussion board with a Zotero group, which sounds more like what you want.
You cannot use this forum - which as Rintze says is a tech support forum - for teaching or discussion purposes.

start a group.
http://www.zotero.org/support/groups
Then under
https://www.zotero.org/groups/<groupname>;
you can "Start a New Discussion" at the bottom of the screen.
