Crap... I lost everything...

Well well...
It seems that I've done something bad because I've lost all my stuff...

Ok, I'l going to try to explain you what I've done and how, maybe, I can get things "back".

I used to work with Zotero FF plug-in on a external HD to work anywhere anytime. But now I have my own PC, and so I installed the standalone.

I tried to copy the "preference" folder to the new one, sync my account (not the docs) and copy my article folder to my PC, but dont know how to change the default folder from Z:\... (the HD default folder for articles) to C:\... (the PC folder for the articles).

So I tried export docs and all from plugin to import from standalone. Get error, came here and pusblished here : http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/27794/import-library-and-doc-from-firefox-plugin/. So see that I have done a mistake...

Now I want to got back to my FF plugin and copy all the stuff again but... Nohing appears in my library... Only my "groups" synchronised library... Ooops... More than 500 articles, notes and references... Crap.

Note that I still have the "exported" library on my PC, when I try to install it on the standalone I have an error "une erreur s'est produite lors de la tentative d'importation du fichier sélectionné. Veuillez vérifier que le fichier est valide et réessayez" which means unvalid file (normal, as stated in the help section).

Si I imported to my HD profile, it works even if I get a javascript error "Access to restricted URI denied"... But I get almost everything back.

So, now, my ending question :

how can I had my all ref (documents, notes...) to the standalone ?
  • No need to start a new thread for the same issue.

I'm not really following what you've done, but these two pages should tell you pretty everything you need to know:

    http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data
    http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/transferring_a_library

If you can't figure it out from those, I'd strongly recommend asking someone to help out in person, using those two pages as guides.

And you should 1) temporarily disable auto-sync from the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences and 2) make a backup of every copy of your Zotero data directory (i.e., anything with a zotero.sqlite file inside it) that you can find before going further.

But it looks like you still have data on the server, so I doubt you lost anything, even if you somehow deleted your database.
  • I update the problems, and it is not really the same, this is why I've started another thread. If it is not great, let the moderation do the necessary.

Ok, so First I save all the database (SQL and so) after I'll try the "normal" way.

    Let you now.

    Again, thank's a lot.
  • Ok, so, after restoring (importing the library) with the export I've done. Then stoping the sync, then copy everything to the standalone default folder it works fine (not perfectly, but that's my mistake).

    Thank's a lot.
