Expected deploymentProfile folders (unified or separate)? when Installing ZSA after ZFF?

Dear Friends:

I got ZFF working, then decided to install ZSA for Chromium integration (via connector).

My Firefox profile is located on an encrypted drive (non-standard location configured by editing ~/.mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini).

When installing ZSA, it created a profile folder in "~" (home folder). I moved that profile to the encrypted drive and configured it by similar means, editing /.zotero/zotero/profiles.ini.

I pointed ZFF *data directory* to the same folder as ZSA, but didn't find any way to have both applications share the same *profile folder*.

This proved less-than-ideal when I edited "about:config" in ZSA and discovered the change was not reflected in ZFF.

This raises the question whether, in a more normal setup. ZSA would find the ZFF profile folder and use it, or whether the two profiles are separate by necessity, and therefore any changes made to one should be made manually to the other?

If a single profile can be shared, it would be simple for me to setup ZFF, then specify the ZFF profile folder for ZSA in the config file /.zotero/zotero/profiles.ini.

Thanks, yateendra

    If you install Zotero Standalone when you already have Zotero for Firefox installed, you will get asked during installation whether you want Zotero Standalone to use the same library used by Zotero for Firefox (the reverse holds true if you install Zotero for Firefox after installing Zotero Standalone).
    When installing ZSA, it created a profile folder in "~" (home folder). I moved that profile to the encrypted drive
    Why didn't you direct ZSA to Zotero (FF) dir?
    but didn't find any way to have both applications share the same *profile folder*.
    I don't follow. http://www.zotero.org/support/preferences/advanced
  • preferences between ZSA and ZFF (e.g. recursive collections, non-default locale etc.) aren't shared even if you go the default route of installation that Gracile links to so you'd have to make the relevant changes manually for both, yes.
    Dan would have to say whether that has any specific reason or is just a side effect of how ZSA is set up.
  • Thanks very much Gracile and Adam, for your responses.

    Gracile, I think the terminology might be hard for us (I am new and am trying, but not always successful). What you are calling "Library," I think is the same thing (at least as a corresponding physical location) to my term "data directory"). Adam, you have precisely answered what I was reaching for.

    I have now made settings changes in each version's (ZFF and ZSA) "about:config" as follows:

    extensions.zotero.sync.storage.deleteDelayDays = 0
    extensions.zotero.sync.debugMenu = true

    The debug options are now showing up in both versions, and I clicked them. So far, there's no response (no purging of files which were part of deleted items in Zotero) on my webDAV drive (CloudMe).

    My impression on study of this problem on the forums is that this might reflect the current state of affairs for the purging function (i.e., not working as expected). Would that be correct?

    Just in case the former files are somehow exempt from my recent actions, I'll try deleting them and initiating a new test "from scratch."

    Thanks Again for Your Quick and Helpful Responses,
    yateendra
