Populate a web page form with a selected zotero entry

for example, the title, journal title, publication year, page number, and others.

If could provide an interface to customize the items to be populated, that would be wonderful.

Looking forward to your response.
  • When would you need this kind of functionality?

    I doubt that Zotero will include this functionality, but if you know javascript, you could implement it as a plugin to Zotero.
  • Please provide more detail about what you want to accomplish (you told us what you think you must do to accomplish your task). There may be other ways to do what you need done.
  • Hi both,

    The scenario I mentioned is as followings:
    I am using firefox query the pubmed or other database and insert the entry I need to Zotero.

    Next step, I want to get the full text article for the entry. Our library need us to type in the information. However, it is not so convenient. I want a function like FindIt in google scholar which could automatic populate the information. However, FindIt only work for university especially USA. Our library is not in the list.

    Hi mronkko, I know Javascript. However, I have little experience in Zotero coding.
  • Zotero has a lookup feature just for that use case

    @zuofeng, mronkko

    If I understand correctly, Zotero's lookup feature will only fulfill part on the task described above. It appears that zuofeng is required to fill out a form to obtain an item that is not in his or her library (through what we call in the U.S. interlibrary loan -- a term held from a time before copy machines). I should have realized this earlier. If a link resolver Open URL system is unavailable for an item, a library can still try to obtain it if complete bibliographic information is provided. Libraries commonly require the request to be made using a print or electronic form. (See below.)

    I have had requests for this feature from users of my SafetyLit database. The problem that makes this all but impossible is the nature of each library's form is inconsistent with the others and does not have useful field labels. I don't think this will ever be fixed until there is a universal system agreed upon by all the world's libraries.

    Note: There are several reasons for requiring library users to submit a form when making a request. The obvious one is making it easy for the librarian to quickly find all of the needed information for the library to request the item from other libraries. A less obvious reason is to make the patron request a little bit difficult so that requests will be made for only truly needed items.
