icons for downloading from a web page do not show up.
I am having a problem using the download from any website, the icons in the browser bar do not show up, even with NY Times and Amazon. I have tried installing zotero on both a machine running windows 7 and windows 8. I am using Firefox, which is up to date. Everything else on zotero appears to be working correctly. The problem seemed to have started when I backed up my zotero files and attempted to reinstall the backup. I have been getting an report ID: 354033796.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If yes, you can try disabling all other Firefox addons in your original Firefox profile and see if the problem disappears. Then re-enable addons one by one or in chunks to figure out which addon is causing problems. If that does not help, please describe how exactly you attempted to "reinstall the backup" and how you created the backup in the first place.
this whole problem started when i had a hard drive crash. i reinstalled zotero and manually moved the files from a backip i had made a few days earlier (whew!). After running zotero from my manual backup, the problem started. i should mention that everything else seems to be working normally. thanks again.
I take it that you are using Zotero Standalone (before you started following my troubleshooting steps above).
In that case, you have a choice of browser: Firefox, Chrome, and Safari (you can use a bookmarklet on most other browsers, but there will be no URL bar icon)
Whichever browser you choose, you have to install an extension for the browser to have the URL bar icon appear. If you have this configuration, the URL bar icon should appear for websites like NY Times and Amazon.
The extension for Firefox also happens to be a full-featured Zotero client, but you can configure your Zotero Standalone and Zotero for Firefox to function together on the same database. Looks like this was your latest issue. To remedy this, open Zotero Standalone, go to Preferences... -> Advanced tab -> click Show Data Directory. Note the location of this directory. Open Firefox with Zotero extension installed. Go to Preferences... -> Advanced tab -> select Choose... for Custom under Data Directory Location and navigate to the directory you noted for Standalone. Select it. Restart firefox. Zotero for Firefox should now import citations into Standalone. If you still need help after the steps above, can you elaborate on which folders exactly you backed up and then copied back?
