Update to standalone (Ubuntu)

On first run this morning, the standalone version reported availability of an update to 3.0.7, then hung on a screen trying to contact the update server. The update file is on the site, but the web site still links to 3.0.6 (just change the ".6" to ".7" on the link).

On second run, got "Unable to update" "you do not have system permissions" - that is correct, as the user running Zotero cannot change files in the installation folder (/opt/Zotero_linux-i686/).

No response needed, just thought this may be useful information...
  • Hmm... I use the standalone version 3.0.3. on Mac, connected via firefox with iphone and ipad, and by trying to update I get always the notice

"Unable to update. A recommended security an stability update is available, but you do not habe the system permission required to install it. Please contact your system administrator..."

Is there anybody who could play this roll?...

    Best wishes
  • Provide an error ID after triggering that message:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs

It sounds like you may have installed Zotero on your administrator account - though I'm not sure how that might have happened.
  • Thanks for your help - but I don't really know what do do... "Report errors" is grey, I can't see an ID... So far as I understand zotero should open a window in which I could tape the password to permit the update. But it simply doesn't do that...
  • Klugkist: Have you tried simply deleting Zotero 3.0.3 from /Applications and redownloading it?

(This also isn't related to the original post, which was about Linux. Better to start a new thread unless you're absolutely sure you have the exact same issue.)
  • Thanks a lot! But what´s about the content in my library if I delete and redownload?

Maybe I should totally change to another programme and try to export my data...
  • if you want to be safe you can make a back-up of your Zotero library:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#backing_up_your_zotero_library

though in general your data will not get lost if you delete & re-install Zotero.
  • Yes, user data is never stored (for any program) within /Applications.
  • Thank you very much!

I now combined it with mendeley inkluding apps for iphone and ipad - and for the moment I think it works.
