Exception... "'A WebDAV file sync error occurred

Hi,

This morning file sync was succesful. However, now I get the following error report each time I try to sync with my webdav server:

Failed to load native module at path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero Standalone\extensions\zoteroWinWordIntegration@zotero.org\components-16.0\zoteroWinWordIntegration.dll': (80520012) <unknown; can't get error from NSPR>

Then it repeats the following for 20 times or so:

[JavaScript Error: "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFile.create]" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/storage.js" line: 2056}]

[JavaScript Error: "too much recursion" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/storage.js" line: 1958}]

[JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "'A WebDAV file sync error occurred. Please try syncing again.

I've submitted the full error report with Report ID: 1960319098.

In case you've any suggestions I'm happy to hear from you,

Thanks, Rinke
  • Btw, I've checked again the webdav server setup, zotero reports that file sync setup is ok.

This could indicate a permissions problem in your Zotero data directory, or the use of security software that's interfering with Zotero's ability to save files. The latter is more common with Zotero for Firefox, though if you had Zotero for Firefox installed first and Zotero Standalone is using the Zotero for Firefox data directory then I could see security software interfering.
  • Hi Dan,

Thank you for this hint. I'm 99% sure that the problem is with my administrator rights on my Win7 computer at work. By default, the settings are that a program is not run with administrator rights unless you explicitly enable this option. Your comment reminded me of that. And without admin rights it doesn't have write access to certain directories. If I don't get back on this tomorrow, this was the problem. Thank you for your help.

    Regards Rinke
  • OK. For what it's worth, I'd recommend adjusting the permissions of the Zotero data directory (which should be accessible to the user) if possible rather than running Zotero with administrative privileges.

(Also, you would generally need write permissions to that directory for Zotero to even get that far, so I'm not sure why you'd be seeing the problem later unless some of the subdirectories have different permissions for some reason.)
