Win8 trouble: "no element found"

This message appears:

[JavaScript Error: "no element found" {file: "https://sync.zotero.org/updated" line: 1}]



I repeatedly get "Empty response from server. Please try again in a few minutes" when I try to synch.

Win8, Firefox 16.0.2, Java updated, no difficulty interacting with my account on Zotero or with other websites, so I have a connection. Just can't synch.
