Adding from JSTOR by clicking address bar icon fails silently

Hello,

I'm trying to add an article from JSTOR to my Zotero library, and the JSTOR translator link appears in the address bar. However, when I click on the add link, Zotero briefly pops up a small notification in the lower-right corner of the screen (apparently, this is the same notification that normally says something along the lines of "Saving to your library ...," but no text ever appears in the notification: it's just a red frame with a light gray background). The empty notification box disappears after two or three seconds, but nothing has been added to my Zotero library.

Here is a URL that's failing:
http://www.jstor.org.proxy.library.ucsb.edu:2048/stable/40753640

Everything I've tried lately seems to be working just fine on other sites on which I do research.

I'm using Zotero 3.0.8 with Firefox 16.0.2 under Ubuntu Linux 11.10. Any help is much appreciated.
  • Hi,

The same thing is happening to me. I have tried using zotero standalone (with JSTOR via chrome and firefox) , and zotero standalone and none of them work. Any ideas how to fix this? when I click on the download button (now grayed instead of blue) the box shows up at the bottom of the screen but it is empty (it usually says it is saving the article) and nothing shows up in zotero. I am also using zotero 3.0.8 and firefox 16.0.2
  • I might also add that the tooltip when I mouse over the address bar icon properly identifies the translator as JSTOR, that I'm not using any Firefox extensions on the incompatible list, that my translators are up to date, that my system clock and time zone are properly set, and that none of the self-diagnostic tools in the Preferences dialog report any problems.
  • Oh yes. I might also mention that Zotero is not grabbing RIS files that I try to export from JSTOR. I wish I had some idea why this isn't working.

Confirmed, thanks for reporting. We do not need any further reports on this and will have a fix out asap - if you haven't posted in this thread, you can subscribe to it on the left (if you have posted you're subscribed automatically).
I hope to have this working again by the end of the day.

(Dan - please pin this thread).
  • This is now fixed.
Your copy of Zotero will auto-update within 24hs or you can update immediately from the General tab of the Zotero preferences.
Any problems, please let us know.

As you may have seen, the JSTOR page has been revamped completely and now includes books and primary sources as well - we haven't tested any of this in much detail, so - once you have updated your translators - specific reports/experiences would be helpful. Please always include the stable JSTOR URL for an item you're referring to.
  • Many thanks for the quick response!
