When trying to sync Zotero with an existing word document where Zotero has been used (on my co-worker's computer), I get the following error message:

Zotero experience an error updating your document [zoteroWinWordIntegration Exception... "This command is not available because no document is open." code: "0" function: "zoteroWinWordApplication::GetDocument" location: ".\zoteroWinWordApplication.cpp"]

How can I fix this problem and sync up?
  • My suggestion at http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/9054/#Item_7 might be worth a try. If that doesn't help, I don't know whether we'll be able to troubleshoot this, but it might help to know the version of Word on your co-worker's computer and whether there is any security software installed.
  • My quick test (I have the issue, too) indicates that it has to do with network shares. Files saved on our mapped network share don't exist for Zotero. When saved on the local hard drive, or before saving, everything works fine.
  • Are there any further news on this? Is there a way I could upload an error log on this issue for someone to look at? Since nearly all our documents are stored on the network, this is a major limitation.
  • Had the same problem here with a file on a network drive. Saved a local copy and Zotero had no problems.

This should be fixed in Zotero Word for Windows integration 3.1.10, which came out over the weekend, although if you're using Zotero Standalone you'll need to wait a couple more days.
  • Yes, that does seem to have resolved the issue. Thanks a lot!
