Why am I being asked to create a Private Key?

Hi

Every so often when I try to save a book an new screen opens in Zotero I am prompted to create a 'New private key".

Why? I am not wanting to share anything with a "third party"

    Are you using a mobile client like Zandy or ZotPad?

    wouldn't that happen if you're trying to save from the Chrome/Safari connector directly to the Zotero server?

    Ah, yeah, sorry, I guess Ann means the key creation webpage on zotero.org, not a message from Zotero itself.

    Ann: The Chrome/Safari plugins currently need a zotero.org API key to save directly to the Zotero servers if Zotero Standalone isn't open. The text isn't very clear here, and we're planning to make this process more automatic in the future. In the meantime, just accept the key—in this case you're not actually sharing data with a third party, just with the Zotero browser plugin itself.
