How can I update an item already in Zotero?

I often add references from PubMed. At the time I add them they may not have the tags I want. I got this from the Help Desk at PubMed:

"The "keywords" you have been downloading are Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms; which appear on citations with the status [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]. PMID: 22536191 has the status [PubMed - in process]. It does not have MeSH terms assigned to it yet."

So I may want to update the reference later. I may already have added links, comments etc so I do not want to replace the item in Zotero with a new item. Can I update the item in Zotero automatically in some way?

    no, not currently.
    (although no one disagrees that would be nice).
