Does Zotero updates notes in group libraries?

Hello,

I am testing out the group feature.
I am adding a book to the group library, from my own library. The book has notes attached to it. I update a note on my own library, but the update does not show on the same book and note of the group library. How to update the note in that group library? How then does it work for collaborative working, i.e. several people adding or editing notes attached to a same book in the group library?

    Items in your library and in the group library are (de facto) completely separate items - i.e. you need to edit the notes directly for the item in the group library.
    If two people modify the same note between syncs you'll get a conflict message during sync - if that's a likely scenario, you should make sure to keep auto-sync on, so that changes sync near instantaneously.

    Thanks. How do I update the group folder's item with the item from my personal folder? When I drag the item from mine to the group's, the group item does not get updated.

    you can't - as I say, they're separate items.
    Eventually this link will be improved - and the internal infrastructure for that is in place - but it's a rather tricky issue, so right now, just treat them as entirely separate and non-mergeable.

    I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon and if this changes it will almost certainly be part of a major release.

    Bumping this to ask a similar question:

    If I attach a note to an item in my library, then drag this item to my own folder in a shared group library, the note seems to stay with it, and everyone can see it. All is fine.

    But, later, say I add a second note to the same item. For some reason, I cannot make this second note appear in the group library. I have tried simply dragging the item to the Group Library, to overwrite the first (single-note) version; I have tried deleting the first version of the item in the group library first, and *then* dragging item from my library.

    Still, the Group Library seems to want to hang on to the earlier version of the item with only one note. What am I missing? thanks.

    In other words, I don't want to *merge*, but to either overwrite or delete original (in group Library) and replace with new (from my Library).

    The libraries are separate. When you drag an item from one to another, it creates an independent copy of the item and all its children.

    Currently syncing items between groups is not supported.

    Thank you for your answer mronkko. But I am not trying to sync between groups, nor am I trying to sync items in my personal library with my group folder.

    Rather, I wish simply to repeat the original action of populating a group folder with items from my personal library by dragging and dropping.

    Even if I empty the group library entirely, starting over from scratch, (and emptying the group trash) the group library seems to hang on to the memory of the earlier version of an item, and it *fails* to create a new copy, complete with all its children.

    You need to delete the trash in the group after deleting the items there. Then you can drag and drop again.

    (This will probably be changed in a later version of Zotero because it is confusing)
