Help with winword integration error

I have freshly reinstalled the latest versions of zotero and the plugin for Word (I have Word 2007), but keep getting an error if I try to add a citation (in both new and old docs) which says:

Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
zoteroWinWordintgration Exception... "The range cannot be deleted." code: "0" function: "zoteroWinWordField::SetText" location: ".zotero.WinWordField.cpp"

I would be really grateful for any help on this.
  • have you tried different citation styles? Same problem with all of them?
  • Thank you for your suggestion.

It seems to be failing with any citation that involves a note and footnote format, although the author-date styles are working.
  • please provide an error report ID right after triggering that error:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs#provide_a_report_id
Simon would have to take it from there then.
  • Thank you. My report ID is 1695828011.
  • Anyone manage to have a look at report ID is 1695828011?
    Thanks.
  • Hello,
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I would be grateful for urgent advice on how to get Zotero working properly - as I can't use it at all if there is no note function working. Thanks
  • I really don't know enough that part of Zotero to be of much help, but you could try running through these:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#debugging_broken_documents
see if any of them help. Otherwise, Simon (who is responsible for the word plugin) has mentioned that he's particularly busy atm, so that's probably why you haven't heard more.
  • Unfortunately, I don't have much to go on here. I don't know what causes this error; I don't think I've seen it before except in connection with Word 2013 Preview, where I know the cause; and I can't reproduce it.

You should upgrade to Firefox 15 (you have Firefox 12) but I doubt that will make a difference here. Do you have any other Word add-ins installed? Have you changed anything on your system since the last time Zotero worked?
  • I updated to Firefox 15, but it still didn't work.

The only thing I changed on my system that is relevant is the upgrade of Zotero to 3.0. So I tried to reinstall 2.1, but now it says it cannot install because that is not compatible with Firefox 15.

I'm getting pretty desperate now, as I have to use citations with notes, and if I can't fix this, then I can't use Zotero - which puts my whole thesis in jeopardy!

I would really appreciate if you could look at the previous errors and see if there are some commonalities.
  • I tried Standalone, but still have the same error

Here is the error report no. 1381756726
  • I had it switched to Classic view, and that doesn't work, but when I switch in to the new view, it does work! So that's great - as I can get working again. With the new view, it is managing to use citations with a note/footnote format.

I guess I will have to get used to the new view option. The only thing is that I prefer classic view, as you can bring up all the literature. In the new view, you have to know all the authors by heart so that you can type in the right one. Or am I missing something?! At least it's working now, so that's a relief!

I don't think you're missing something, but just to be clear - the quick format Word plugin does a search on all authors and titles - so if you know any of the authors or the title of a work you're good. But you can't scroll through your library like in the classic view, no.

I think there is a small chance that this will be fixed in the next Zotero release - Simon fixed a small issue with footnotes and the classic editor - but no promises.

I meet with the same problem on MS Word 2007. Each time I get the error, the bibliography disappears when I close the warning window, and come out when I refresh it.
It works again when I delete the bibliography region, but I don't know why.
  • Aparrently it wasn't fixed, I'm trying the version downloaded yesterday, and the same error keeps popping up in Word 2013 when using classic view AND the default view.

Despite the error message, it manages to insert the citation, but not as a Word field, but simple text, with malformed formatting.
  • Simon: Thank you very much, the trunk XPI seems to have solved my problem!
