Adding citation causes major re-formating issues in document

I was using zotero for Firefox 3.08 and MS word from office 2010. When I put a cursor where I want a citation from the Word add-ons menu, and poof giant mess. Cannot be undone with cntl-z either, have to close and re-open. Have tried removing add-ons in Word, but cannot (there is no option to) Have reinstalled word from scratch and the ad-ins are still there. Have tried Zotero standalone, same issues. Has anyone else seen this? I cannot find *anything* like this described on the web or on the Zotero site.

    Portions of the text become reformatted, have a different font. The bibliography shows up (not asked for) in the middle of the document several times. I think I have solved this by saving the document as .txt then re-saving as .docx. I'm now able to insert reference correctly with no change in formatting, and add bibliography correctly. Thank god this was very early in the paper!
