Duplicate Detection

I am a new user to Zotero and have deliberately entered a duplicate or two into Zotero to see how it picks them up. But, after syncing no extra collection appears that lists them. Do I need to change a preference?

    Right click on My Library (left pane) and select Show Duplicates.

    Thanks I had tried this in the "Library" section but not in the "My Library." I am still finding it difficult to know what to do on the Zotero site and what to do with Zotero running just as an add in in my browser.

    you do everything with the Browser add-on.

    The library online is mainly there to a) allow easier sharing of resources etc. and b) allow some type of access when you're not at a computer with Zotero installed.
