Sync fails because of "read-only" issues in the storage and tmp folders

Zotero was working fine before but I started using it on a computer I had not used for a long time (and where it used to work it seems to me) and I now have problem with part of the library not syncing.

It stops syncing because of this:
"The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\**\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\faqa1yz2.default\zotero\storage\P839RE42\prototype.js' cannot be created. Check that the file is not currently in use and that it is not marked as read-only. To check all files in your Zotero data directory, right-click on the 'zotero' directory, click Properties, and ensure that the Read-Only checkbox is empty.

Restarting your computer or disabling security software may also help."

I unchecked the "read only" for the folder, started again, it synced the file then blocked for the next one. I synced the whole Zotero folder, same thing, etc...
I disabled my firewall (Kasperky Internet Security 11), it did not help.
It has been like this for some days now but I first did not realize some files were missing.

Thanks......
  • This isn't something Zotero can do anything about. You'll have to figure out what on your system is interfering. The fact that "Read-Only" was checked at all indicates that something was.
  • It was not really checked, it is checked and greyed, I read Windows's help and they say it is always like that because Windows do not check for every file in the folder so just do not say it is or not read-only.

Ok, I'll keep you informed if I find something....
  • I did again what I had done before and this time it worked:
    - uncheck the grayed "read only" for all Zotero files
    - disable firewall (Kasperky Internet Security 11)

We'll see if I can reproduce that or not.
  • I confirm it is reproducible. But you have to do it in the right order: uncheck first and disable firewall second.
  • I had a similar problem and changing Kaspersky settings fixed it.

Zotero sync (Zotero 3.0.8, windows vista, FF 14) would give an error message directing me a read-only folder.

I am using Kaspersky Antivirus 6.0, provided by my institution. The problem resolved when I turned off Kaspersky's "Proactive Defense (application activity analyser/Registry guard)" option. The other components of Kaspersky are still active and zotero is syncing with no problems.
