Another "Run-time error '5'" problem...

Hi folks, while i found many references to "Run-time error '5':" in the forums, none of them matched my problem, so here goes...

--------------------
The Problem:
--------------------
I get the VB Run-time error '5' message dialog whenever i try to do anything with Zotero from within MS Word.

--------------------
Error Message:
--------------------
Dialog box labelled: Microsoft Visual Basic
Text:
Run-time error '5':
Invalid procedure call or argument
Buttons:
"Continue" (greyed); "End"; "Debug" (greyed); "Help"
Button Behavior:
"End" - closes dialog only.
"Help" - brings up MS Word help.

--------------------
Scenario Details:
--------------------
A large Zotero library exists.
Error occurs with both new documents and existing documents.
Existing documents are the newer .docx format, not compatibility docs.

--------------------
System Details:
--------------------
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1
Word Processor: MS Office Word 2007 (12.0.6661.5000) SP3 MSO (12.0.6607.1000)
Browser: FireFox 14.0.1
Zotero:
Version 3.0.8
Zotero Word for Windows Integration 3.1.7
zotero.dot located in:
c:/users/USERNAME/AddData/Roaming/Microsoft/Word/STARTUP/
Zotero Add-In appears in the ribbon on the Add-Ins tab.

--------------------
What I Tried:
--------------------
1. Reinstalled Zotero for Word from FireFox.
2. Deleted Zotero.dot, then reinstalled Zotero for Word from FireFox.
3. Removed Zotero for Word from FireFox, re-added it.

Thoughts?
  • Did you ensure that Firefox isn't running as administrator or in Windows XP compatibility mode as suggested by http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/12726/?
  • Thanks Simon, that actually did the trick -- zotero is working fine now.

That said, i just want to clarify two things that might make my question seem slightly less silly:
    1. Zotero originally worked just fine, even in administrator mode, then it stopped, so this left me thoroughly puzzled.
    2. For some reason that post didn't seem like it applied the first couple times i read it. Turns out i was wrong. :-)

    Thanks again.
