AMA Citation style not downloading to Mac/Safari

Hello. I'm working with a student and trying to load the AMA Citation Style on her Mac OS X. She uses Safari. When we click on the install button it switches to HTML code and doesn't download.
Thanks much,

  • To install a style in Zotero standalone, download it to the computer (I think right-click (or ctrl+click) and save-as on the link should work in Safari).
Typically just opening the style from the file system should work then. If not, you can manually add it from the "Cite-->Styles" tab of the Zotero preferences.
  • @Dan Stillman, would it make sense to only show the "install" links when visiting the Zotero Style Repository with Firefox and Zotero for Firefox is installed? Apparently it's not too difficult to detect Firefox add-ons: http://webdevwonders.com/detecting-firefox-add-ons/ .

Alternatively, maybe you could just add a link to http://www.zotero.org/support/styles, which contains installation instructions.
  • +1 to both of these - this comes up way too often and I don't see how we can expect users to know that "install" doesn't apply to Standalone
  • Proposed text for the top of the Style Repository page:

Find Citation Style Language (CSL) 1.0 styles for
    Zotero
and other CSL 1.0–compatible clients. For more information on installing and using these styles, see the Zotero wiki. CSL 0.8.1 styles (for Zotero 2.0.9 and older) can still be found in the old repository.

  • Hey everyone, I just had a second student with a Mac Standalone show up and did the manual install steps recommended by Adam in the first post. Worked great. Thanks!!
