Zotero takes 4 clock minutes to create a new item

I moved from Mendeley to Zotero to go opensource. My main purpose in using Zotero is to handle the PDF file as well as the associated bibliographic info. I usually rely on BibTeX for the actual formatting of references. My library contains 7700+ elements of which about 7500 contain at least one PDF. I disabled full text indexing and tagging but still it takes up to 4 minutes of wall clock to create a new biblio entry and attach a PDF. I browsed the debug and the time column on the left does not reflect the actual time that passed. Are you aware of any problem of this type appearing before. I activated the logging in Zotero standalone and then performed the following operations:
1. filtered the authors by the name of the author of the paper I wanted to add to check if it was already there.
2. I imported the library item from the clipboard. The thing was obtained from ScienceDirect.com.
3. I added the PDF file to it.

Do you have any suggestion how to accelerate the process in a way that Zotero could be actually used.

The Debug ID is D1867034074
  • As an update to help isolate the problem, with the same identical library Zotero in firefox added a new entry to the library in real time. So it is definitely something in Zotero standalone.
  • Best as I can tell from that output, I'm guessing you've installed some add-on that automatically generates a BibTeX file from your entire library every time there's a change.
  • AutoZotBib might do that I think.
  • and I can confirm that AutoZotBib was completely unusable for me, in the way the OP describes on a large library.
  • (I've added a warning to the plugin page. Has anyone brought that up with Robin, the author of the plugin?)
  • You are right I found that myself last night. By disabling the autosave of AutoZotBib Zotero is way more responsive.

    Thanks.
