Is 4Shared really able to provide suitable sync with Zotero through WebDAV?

Hi,

I am proceeding with tests of syncing using WebDAV services. For instance, I could establish suitable and easy WebDAV sync using the follows services (before sync, it is necessary to create a folder called "zotero" at the root folder of these services):

CloudMe=> http://webdav.cloudme.com/[username]/xios

Storegate=> https://webdav1.storegate.com/[username]/home/[username]

About 4Shared, I found this thread in which is mentioned that this service also sync with Zotero:

But from step 4 ahead the instructions didn't work. It seems strange to connect to 4Shared WebDav just using "https://webdav.4shared.com"(in the services I mentioned above it was necessary to insert the username in the URL).

So, is 4Shared really able to provide suitable and easy sync with Zotero through WebDAV? How to?

    I can confirm that finding for CloudMe (http://www.cloudme.com/en). It perfectly works for me with a 1500+ item collection of 2,7GB. They have not got the unpleasant file limit of 1000 items per directory like most other (free) WebDAV storage services. Only drawback: no secured connection to the server.

    Another WebDAV service that is Zotero compatible is DriveOnWeb (http://www.driveonweb.de) with 3GB free storage, no 1000 files limit AND secured connection. The server are located in the EU, in Germany, if this is of any interest.

    4shared works perfectly for me, and 15gb is a great amount of space for free...I'm sorry but zotero 100mb's are really limited, and if you are a student you cannot afford to buy extra space, especially given all these free storage services.

    For 4shared, just use:
    webdav.4shared.com
    and your user/password.

    That's why Zotero gives you the option of using WebDAV.
    It's not equivalent to zotero storage, though. Using webDAV, you can't (easily) access files online or through your library at zotero.org and you can't share files in private groups, so this is really a question of what you need.

    In order to get 4shared to work, I had to manually create the zotero folder in my 4shared account. Without that, zotero repeated failed to verify. Once I created it, it worked great. Also works great with Zotpad.
