Safari connector isn't downloading

For some reason I have managed to download the standalone zotero for Mac OS X.

However, when I try to install the Safari Connector, it comes up with this message. "An error occurred while installing the extension “Zotero Connector for Safari”."

I wondered if there is any way of resolving the issue.

Thanks,
Hannah

Are you saying that's not what you want to be running? You can easily install Zotero 3.0 for Firefox.

For the connector issue, try clearing your Safari cache for zotero.org. Safari preferences -> Privacy -> Cookies and other website data -> Details -> "zotero.org" -> click the search result and Remove. Then try downloading again from http://www.zotero.org/support/3.0#zotero_standalone

When I attempt to download the Zotero Connector for Safari, it will show up in the dock in my downloads, but when I open it and try to install it, I don't even get an error message---all I get is a blank webpage. I have tried clearing my cache and removing cookies and website data, but still I am unable to successfully install the connector. I have uninstalled the standalone, reinstalled, and tried to download and install the connector with no success.

    Any ideas? Thanks!
  • kblackburn3853: What version of OS X, and what version of Safari?
  • I have this same problem. I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.1 and Safari Version 4.0.3. The download for the Safari connector shows up in my downloads folder, but when I click on it a message tells me that the file is unable to be opened.
  • Update Safari, and the rest of your system software, by going to System Preferences->Software Update->Check Now. Both OS X 10.6.1 and Safari 4.0.3 are several years out of date and contain security bugs.
  • Same here: "An error occurred while installing the extension “Zotero Connector for Safari”.

    Safari Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2)
    Mac OS X - 10.7.4

    Thanks
  • hey there,

I have the same problem. I downloaded the zotero 3.0.7 and the safari connector, but nothing really seems changed on the safari page, it doesn't give errors but I cannot edit a page on safari.. I have the Safari Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2) and Mac OS X - 10.7.4..

"I cannot edit a page on Safari"
You seem to be misunderstanding what Zotero does. You can never edit pages in/with Zotero. You can import the metadata of some pages into Zotero using the connector - is that what's not working?
    http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/no_address_bar_icon
In Safari, you won't seen an item in the URL bar, but rather the Zotero icon to the left of the address bar will change color and be clickable.
  • Hello,

I have tried to install zotero connectro for safari, the icon appears on the left part of the toolbar but it is still offline. I have tried to use it with numerous websites (googleScholar, EBSCO databases....)
I use safari 5.1.7 (7534.57.2) and PC with Window 7

Some students have the same problems to use Zotero with safari.

    Many thanks for your help.
  • you have Zotero Standalone installed?
  • Yes Zotero Standalone is installed. A student have the same problem with Zotero Standalone.

    Many thanks for your help
  • Safari for Windows can misbehave -- especially when malware software is set to strong protection. Can any of your students successfully bring records into Zotero using the FireFox plug-in? If not the problem may be related to your instition's network.
  • oh right - I didn't see that. I don't know if Zotero is even tested on Safari for Windows (why would anyone use that?).
