downloading-installing making Zotero work.

I have downloaded and installed Zotero in all three ways suggested. It will not work.
I have a new fast computer, everything else works.
I have 1. tried the simple DOWNLOAD button. no go
2. addons.mozilla.org It downloads, then close Firefox & restart to install
but NOTHING
3. right-clicked on the big DOWNLOAD button, saved .zpi file to desktop, tried dragging it to Firefox window - - - then drag and drop that file onto an open Firefox window. (exactly WHERE is this ? the address bar? won't go there.
I REALLY want/need this ZOTERO. What can possibly be wrong?
AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! HELP !!

    OK, let's start with something so obvious that it might insult your intelligence (which I really am not trying to do).

    How do you know it doesn't work?

    Do you see "Zotero" (or maybe just a "Z") at the right-hand side of the status bar at the bottom of the Firefox window? If so, Zotero has installed and you need to click it to open up the Zotero window.

    Not there? Um...I'm out of ideas. Stayed tuned for someone more learned that I to come along.

    What Operation System are you using?
    Firefox version?
