Zotero 3.0.6 not converting parenthetical citations to footnotes

I have repeatedly tried converting parenthetical citations (Chicago author-date) to footnote citations (Chicago note or MHRA). The error occurs just after Zotero converts parenthetical citations to footnotes in Word 2011 (latest update), but the error occurs before the citation data is inserted, leaving all footnotes with the following generic text: 0/0/00 0:00 AM. I get this problem in Firefox and Standalone versions of Zotero.

Here is the error message:

Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

[Exception… "The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1728.) @[convert:document.m:723]' when calling method: [zoteroIntegrationDocument::convert]" nsresult: 0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/integration.js :: :: line 1117" data: no]

  • I can't reproduce this with a minimal document. Would you mind sending the document to support@zotero.org? Also, if you press the refresh button after receiving the error, does it fill in the citations?
  • Hi Simon,

    I sent the document in question to support@zotero.org. When I choose Refresh, Zotero does fill in the citations in the footnotes, but it also doubles the citations in the document body where the parenthetical citations used to be. I'm not sure what's going on.
  • The MacWord Integration Trunk XPI should fix things for now. You'll want to install the next official release of the plugin manually when it comes out, which will probably be in a week or so.
  • I switched back to the Firefox version of Zotero, installed the Trunk XPI you linked above, and the conversion between parenthetical citations and footnotes now works. Thank you for all your help!
