Firefox 2, Tabbing, Status Bar, and Zotero

With Firefox 2.0.0.1 on Debian Linux (binary installation from firefox site ), the Status bar disappears whenever I start using tabs. If I remove the Zotero extension this stops happening.

I did have a long list of items in My Library which I exported and wiped (thinking it might be messing up the sizing), to no avail.

Any suggestions ?.

    I have the same problem, using Swiftfox. The status bar seems to disappear, but it is actually still there below the bottom of the browser window. I'm using Gnome, and when I (a) retract the gnome panels and (b) maximize the Swiftfox browser window, I can see the status bar. However, the problem is that Zotero is causing the status bar to =not= adjust position when the browser window is resized. So, when I shrink my browser window, the status bar remains in it's same position and this makes the window essentially hide it by covering it.

    I didn't realize at first that this was being caused by Zotero, so I started a post on Ubuntu Forums. If it's any help, I posted some screenshots there: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=341585

    I'm not able to reproduce this, but does this occur with the tag selector closed? Does it happen regardless of the height of the tag selector and/or Zotero pane?

    Also, cwmccabe, can you forward those screenshots to support@zot....org? Thanks.

    Hello Dan,

    Yes it does occur with the tag selector closed, however I've just reduced the size of
    the Zotero pane to half size and magically the status bar is now back (and handles
    resizing).

    So it seems to be when the Zotero pane is full size it is confusing firefox/iceweasel/swiftfox ?.

    I'll try to forward some screen shots if that's any help?.

    It occurs both when the tag selector is open and closed. I failed to mention before that this occurs even when the Zotero pane is not open. It occurs whenever Zotero is enabled as a Swiftfox Add-on. So, when I disable Zotero and restart the browser, the problem ceases and the status bar will resize with the browser window.

    Here's a bit more:
    * Ubuntu Dapper Drake
    * using Gnome 2.14.3
    * using Swiftfox with the following info:
    Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061221 Firefox/2.0.0.1 (Swiftfox)

    Hmm, rather confusingly if I move Zotero back to a full pane again the status bar still works.

    I'll try this at home on a clean install of iceweasel and report back.

    Okay, I did a little playing and I hope the description of my findings are intelligible. If any of this below doesn't make sense, please feel free to ask me.

    Zotero positions the status bar relative to the =minimum= amount of space the Zotero pane is set to consume in the browser window. This is also relative to whether the Zotero pane is set to display above or below the browser content. So I played with this relative to two variables: (1) whether Zotero is in fullscreen or halfscreen mode, and (2) whether the Zotero pane is set to display above or below the browser content. (Below, I mention 175 pixel spacing, but this is just an estimate.)

    -------------------------------

    = Fullscreen Mode, Above Browser Content =
    The status bar will stop resizing in sync with the browser window when the window is shrunk to within about 175 pixels of the top of the browser.

    = Fullscreen Mode, Below Browser Content =
    The status bar stops resizing in sync with the browser window when the window is resized within 175 pixels of the top of the browser window.

    = Halfscreen Mode, Below Browser Content =
    The status bar stops resizing in sync with the browser window when the Zotero pane first bumps into the top of the browser window. So, if the Zotero pane is shrunk as small as possible (about 175 pixels in height), the status bar will stop resizing in sync with the window when the window is resized to within 175 pixels of the top of the browser.

    = Halfscreen Mode, Above Browser Content =
    The status bar stops resizing in sync with the browser window when the window is resized to =more= than 175 pixels above the bottom of my laptop's screen. Since had Zotero in this halfscreen, above content mode, this is why I had to maximize my window and retract the gnome panels to see the status bar. (as described in my original post)

    Significantly, these things occur regardless of whether the Zotero pane is is open or not. Additionally, the spacing is effected by whether Swiftfox has one or multiple browser tabs open, because additional tabs reduce the browser window space available for content and for the Zotero pane.

    P.S. I should note that I only recently (and accidentally) had put Zotero in the halfscreen mode and set to display above the browser content. So, I don't actually know that this bug is new because I probably wouldn't have noticed it under the first three conditions listed above.

    Thanks to both of you for your help on this.

    It seems to me the issues are two-fold:

    1) If the browser window is resized smaller than the min-height of Zotero, the status bar disappears.

    2) The min-height of Zotero remains in effect whether or not Zotero is open.

    #1 isn't really an issue at the default min-height of 170px, since there's not really much need to shrink the browser window that small, but the Zotero pane's min-height is set dynamically based on the height of the tag selector. You'll notice that if the Z pane is set halfway up the window and you drag the tag selector up all the way, you can't (or shouldn't be able to, though there's another bug in there that intermittently lets you) shrink the Z pane any more—the Z pane min-height is now set to the height of the tag selector plus a little bit. If you shrink the tag selector, you can then shrink the Z pane more. This isn't ideal but is tolerable as we look for a better solution. The problem, though, is that if the tag selector is sized far up (resulting in a large min-height for the Z pane), and then you close the Z pane, the min-height remains in effect, causing the status bar to go off-screen if you shrink the browser window.

    Having the min-height not stay in effect when the Z pane is closed should mostly fix this problem. I'm also hoping we can find a solution for the tag selector that doesn't involve dynamically messing with the Z pane min-height, which would make things far simpler.

    In the meantime, keeping the tag selector small or closed before closing the Z pane should keep the min-height to less than 300px or so.

    I hope that makes sense. Let me know if what I've described doesn't seem to address the issues you're seeing, and thanks again for your help.
