Capturing a DOI in Zotero reference

Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone could advise how to get Zotero to automatically capture the DOI with journal articles picked up say in Google Scholar. Also my citations in Zotero always seem to include the journal issue number as well as the volume number when the issue number is not required for APA reference citations - any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks
Carlo
  • Google scholar doesn't supply DOI data so Zotero doesn't capture it. If you get your articles from the publisher or a database like EBSCO or JSTOR they'll have DOIs.

APA style does require issue numbers for journals that aren't paginated consecutively for each volume. Since there is no way Zotero can tell, the style provides too much rather than too little information.
  • Hi thanks Adam. Google scholar actually does provide DOI data when you click on the article link itself, just thought might be an automatic way rather than manually accessing it, no worries

  • Zotero uses the export to bibtex data from google scholar - that doesn't have DOIs.
Some of the pages google links to have DOIs, but since they are all different, there is no way the google scholar translator can handle that (even if Zotero can, via separate translators for those sites).
