Quick format citation dialogue

Hi Dan, thank you for your quick reply (can't quite comprehend how you keep track - there's sooo many threads...),

As a first time user of the forum this thread seems to approach my problem best...

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, Word 2010 and Zotero 3.0.3 (FF 11.0 - portable).

I was using ZOtero and inserting citations without any problems. After switching to FF-portable the "Quick Format Citation" dialogue does not appear. Or at least: after selecting a style, a large "Quick Format Citation" window does pop up, but it's empty. I already tried manually re-installing the word-processor-plug-in (there was no trace of the plug-in bar in Word anymore before the reinstall), but no success.

For my new job (PhD research) I'd much rather stick with Zotero than having to go back to EndNote. I hope someone can help me out with this.

Kind regards,

Marija

What do you mean by "empty"?
  • It does not show any button or reference. Just a white window with nothing to click on. Can I send you a print-screen?
  • (@DavidocicMarija: you can post a screenshot by linking to ImageShack)
  • Thank you Gracile, that would be:

That's definitely not supposed to happen. Do you have any non-Zotero extensions or themes installed? If so, have you tried disabling them? Otherwise, can you generate a <a href="http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs">report ID</a> after re-triggering the issue?
  • Hi Simon, sorry for the delay in my response. I have nothing new (other than going portable): walnut-theme, IE-tab, save session and close and ad-block.

I even removed my FF on my laptop (C-drive) after back-ups and the works, but that was not the problem either.

    This is the report-ID: 1708292146

    Thank you for your time,

    Marija

Did you try disabling the walnut theme (and "Walnut Theme Fix")? It looks like there's something nutty going on in that screenshot.
  • I did not expect that would do much, but you were right on. I now get a very small window with a small 'drop-down'arrow (I reinstalled the theme to check and the problem indeed returned).

Now when I click the arrow I get to choose the classic view. Once selected, it seems to work fine. I do have to re-select it with every reference I make. Is there any way to make the classic view standard?

I also tried disabling Adblock and updated Java and flash but that did not make a difference.
Quite strange - there must be others using FF-port and zotero without this curious side-effect. I hope you can figure it out - I understand the classic view will be left out in newer versions of zotero?

I would be surprised if there was a plan to drop it. Do you have a source for this information, or is it a rumor going around?
  • Is there any way to make the classic view standard?
Yep. Open the gear menu, click on the Cite tab, and you'll see the tick-box option to use Classic View as the default.

What do you mean by this? Why do you have to use the classic view? Is the Quick Format window still not working for you with the theme disabled?
  • @fbennett: I inferred it from something I read (can't find the thread though), but glad to hear the classic view will stay.

@Dan: ....as I was typing 'no it still does not work' I wanted to make a screenshot to show it. As it turns out, now I cán type in the window. I don't know why, I did not change anything since the last try (other than x-times restarting FF)

Thank you both for your time - happy to be able to continue with Zotero (and now off I go getting/creating a citation style that pleases Dutch researchers and publishers...)
  • Simon, thank you too! Sorry I missed your entry (especially since it cracked the nutty problem :)
