SpringerLink, Wiley online library, abstract and tags

Hello,

I'm having a "small" problem with the new SpringerLink and Wiley online library websites, visibly non reported by other users. The capture icon works and the adding with DOI is OK as well, except for two fields:
- abstract
- keywords (tag)

One example for Springer:

Will this problem be fixed by a future update of the translators?

    The DOI provider (CrossRef) does not store abstract and keywords. The DOI translator won't import these in the foreseeable future.

    The Springer and Wiley translators will likely be fixed & abstracts/keywords/PDF attachments might then be imported.

    Hi, is there any progress on this? I still can't seem to get the abstract. Or is there somehting I'm not doing?

    For Springer the issue is still the same and won't change until they change their site or provide a translator themselves.

    Wiley should work, but I can see it doesn't - I can have a look there, should be easy to fix.

    That's a shame (esp. re Springer). Is there anything I can do?--as a LOT of my resources come from Springer. Are there changes I could make to the SpringerLink translator, or the RIS one?

    You're certainly welcome to look at the Springer translator (the RIS translator is fine), but I doubt if it can't be fixed - both ajlyon and I have looked at it and it requires a unique, session specific ID that's not displayed on the item page to download the (RIS) bibliographic data.*

    You can obviously also ask Springer to help - several publishers - including EBSCO and most recently Ovid have contributed translators.

    *though actually something might have change - I think we could get to this with a processDocument request since the export-citation page URL is unique for each item.

    A SpringerLink translator is up now - includes abstracts and pdfs (provided you have access).
    It will automatically update in your version of Zotero within 24hs or you can update immediately from the general tab of the Zotero preferences.

    Springerlink isn't working for me - I get "An error occurred when saving this item".

    should work - it's an abstract for a journal article on "Markov Decision Processes with Arbitrary Reward Processes" by Jia Yuan Yu, Shie Mannor and Nahum Shimkin (in "Recent Advances in Reinforcement Learning", LNCS 2008, Vol 5323/2008, 268-281).

    Any thoughts? My translators are up to date. Firefox 11.0, Zotero 3.0.3, Report ID: 1477880062. I use SpringerLink a lot, so this is painful. . ;)

    The fixed translator is up. You can wait for it to auto update within 24 hours or update immediately via Zotero preferences.

    Let us know if the problem persists. I didn't test it behind a proxy, so if it only does not work behind a proxy, start another thread.

    Wow! I just updated and gave it a shot, and it works! From online whine to fix in just 16 hours - thanks!

    I'm almost embarrassed to bring this up, but there's just one, really minor niggle - and perhaps the fix will only break something else, anyway. I just tested the fix by importing this book chapter from LNCS:

    This should import as:

    but instead, I get

    I've noticed this in the past when importing from LNCS (which I do a lot); fixing it manually is pretty easy, and I can easily imagine that a fix in the translator would simply break imports from some other publications or collections within SpringerLink.

    In any case, I have to say, I'm increasingly impressed with Zotero!

    please don't be shy about reporting errors or low quality imports, that's the only way we can improve translators.

    It's a little tricky in this case - we use the RIS export that Springerlink creates for Endnote, Procite etc. - and the problem is that they save the title as T1 and the book title as TI - where the latter should be T2 according to specifications. (don't worry if that sounds like gibberish - thinking aloud here).
    @Aurimas - I'm thinking the easiest and safest way to fix this would be to check whether there is a T1 - and a TI - in the RIS and if so transform the latter to T2 - does that sound right to you?

    @adamsmith I pushed a patch last night, was hoping to post about it here once it got merged. My solution was to use BibTeX. It exports titles correctly and it exports creator roles.

    Though, we will have to tweak the logic in the RIS translator as well. This has come up before with two T2 titles.

    Unfortunately, it looks as though the problem is still there. :( I did some more testing this morning and so far, I have two failures and no successes (proxy part of URL's removed):

    Both display the original behaviour, with the book title being placed in Zotero's "Title" field, and the Book Title field being blank.

    adamsmith, your analysis seems to me to be on the money, although as a relative newcomer to Zotero I don't know enough about what's happening under the covers. Let me know if you push out an updated translator, and I'll do my part with testing.

    No joy, I'm afraid, aurimas. I updated manually and then tested with two book sections from LNCS but had the same behaviour: the Title in Zotero was the book title, while the Book Title field was blank. I manually corrected them, but I also went back and exported the citations from Springerlink in both Bibtex and RIS formats. All information below:

    Beautiful! I've been on a small orgy of downloading: probably a dozen or more book chapters and journal articles from Springerlink, and the translator has performed pretty much flawlessly on all of them.

    I now have a small mountain of reading to get through - and that's just the stuff I printed off. Thanks - I think! ;)
