Zotero 3.0.3 for Firefox link

Hi,

I've been trying all day to download Zotero 3.0.3, but when I click on the "Zotero 3.0.3 for Firefox" link nothing happens...is this just a short term problem? I had no problems downloading and using the "Zotero Standalone 3.0.3 for Mac OS X" link.

Cheers,

Ewan
  • If you are using Firefox, the browser will attempt to install it directly. Are you sure that you do not get a question about installing the extension when you click the link? It should appear above the page.
  • When I click on the link, or try and save the link, the page starts "loading" or the link starts "downloading", but nothing actually happens.

I've had the same problem with saving the link in Safari, I've cleared my cache and restarted both Firefox and my computer...any other tips?

    Cheers!
  • The link works just fine for me on Safari.
  • Well I tried again just now, when I try and save the link it just states "preparing to download", but nothing actually happens...
  • Copy-paste this to terminal

    curl http://download.zotero.org/extension/zotero-3.0.3.xpi -o ~/Downloads/zotero-3.0.3.xpi

If that does not download it, then there is a problem. (I assume that you have your Downloads-folder in the usual place)
  • Hmmm, I pasted it into Terminal and the "time spent" box is ticking along for over 2 minutes now - my guess is that it should be a lot quicker...

Thanks your help, this is making me go a little bit mad :)
  • Something is wrong with your network, then. Get a friend to download the XPI and e-mail it to you, and then you can drag it into Firefox to install it.
  • Ok, thanks - I'll give it a go.

    Thanks.
  • Hello--just upgraded to Firefox 11.0. It is telling me that the python add-on is not compatible. Can you help. I am in the middle of a paper, and I have been having LOTS of trouble getting zotero to work. Is it going to get better? I really want this to work, but it just gets worse and worse.
    Thanks
  • update your add-ons. You should automatically be ugraded to the 3.5 version of the word plugin, which doesn't require python ext. Otherwise, "LOTS" doesn't really help us, if you are more specific we can likely help you.
I have used Zotero for almost 5 years now and written a dissertation and multiple articles with it, without ever encountering a serious issue.

Any further questions - please start a new thread - this one is unrelated to your issue.
  • I was commenting on how snippy I perceived you to be--I am frustrated with not being as computer savvy as I would like--zotero seems to be working now, upgraded the add-ons. Thank you.
  • I have no intention on being snippy, just providing brief and succinct instructions to both answer your questions and/or help you get answers in case I don't. I would think that getting an answer within 10mins on a Sunday afternoon would come with an assumption of good intentions.

(if you're concerned about politeness on online forums, do avoid using all caps (use _ _ or * * or if you need to emphasize something) and don't reference problems without providing enough information to troubleshoot them).
  • point taken. I'll watch my writing better. Indeed, I was not expecting a response so soon. You are correct, and I apologize for the way I presented myself. I think Zotero is really great, an obviously has the technical support to match.
  • glad it's working for you. Any other issues, start a new thread and see here: http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs

If I may nose in; the request to start a new thread should never be taken as being snippy. Starting a new thread can better help the person having the problem and others who later have a similar problem. It is a shorthand way to say, "I'll help with your problem but not in this thread."

When starting a new thread the problem should be described in detail:
What steps did you take to accomplish what you wanted?
What happened instead? -- Or, what did not happen?
    What operating system and version?
    What browser and version?
    What word processor and version?

Please see the guidelines for reporting problems. (Link in message above.)

Reporting a problem in a structured way can help you to understand how things should work and, in the long run, improve your expertise. I find, personally, that it can also help lower my frustration level.
