I can't get the Word plugin to insert citations

Hi,

I just downloaded Zotero. I have a Mac, Firefox version 10.0.2, and Microsoft Word 2008. I'm just playing around with the software, so I have one citation in my library with an attached PDF. In Word, when I write a sentence and then click "add citation" I get the following error message: Type Error: Field is undefined.

This seems like a pretty basic problem and the other discussion threads I have found about this error message don't seem to apply. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
  • Provide a report ID after re-triggering the error.
  • Here is the report ID: 2078977543. Thanks for your help.
  • I'm having trouble reproducing this. Does it matter what style you use? Does it happen in a completely new document?
  • It does happen in a completely new document, but I just tried it with different citation styles and I noticed that it works just fine when I select "Cell" but not at all with "Chicago." I also tried it with "Nature" and I didn't get the error message, but I only got a superscript number and no footnote or endnote with the entire citation at the end of the document. Although when I clicked "Add bibliography" the full citation popped up.
  • The behavior for Nature is expected/correct - even though Nature has superscripts, these aren't to footnotes, but to a numbered bibliography.

So this is connected to footnotes somehow.
Creating a footnote from within Word works for you?
  • We had to completely rewrite the Word plugin to work with Firefox 11, and apparently it still has a few bugs in it. I think I found a potential cause of this. Can you try installing the MacWord Integration Trunk XPI and see if that fixes the issue? If it works, we'll push it to all users.
  • It looks like that fixed the problem. Thanks so much.
