Help please! Migrating zotero Vista to Ubuntu with only Storage directory

Hi,

I've been trying to find a solution to this and I can't. I just reinstalled my OS from Vista to Ubuntu Hardy Heron, and have now installed zotero successfully in FF3 using the trunk installation as mentioned somewhere on these forums. But I am having trouble transferring my old database. I have a copy of the Storage folder from my Vista installation - I thought this would be enough, but I can't seem to get it recognised. Is there something I'm missing, or is the storage folder alone not sufficient to establish a new database? I have a significant amount of reference data in this folder, with pdfs, and I need to use it very soon. I might be able to reinstall my old zotero from a backup on another computer, but it would involve an OS re-installation so I'm hoping the storage folder will be enough. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  • FAQ.

You need to move your whole 'zotero' folder, not just 'storage' subdirectory.
  • And don't use the trunk. Use the 1.0 branch.
  • Thank you for your prompt answers. I gather then there's no simple way of rebuilding the index based only what is in the storage folder. Looks like I'll have to reload my Vista backup to get back the rest of the zotero folder.
  • The storage folder only contains binary attachments (e.g. PDF files). All of your item metadata, collections, tags, notes, and annotations are stored in the zotero.sqlite database. Our upcoming backup and synchronization service will greatly simplify the sort of migration that you're attempting right now, since you'll be able to pull down your entire Zotero library to a new machine from our server with a single click.
