How do you drag and drop a PDF file on to Zotero?

I'd like to add a locally saved PDF file into Zotero and try to have Zotero figure out its citation through metadata. I know you can do this by clicking the green circle with the plus sign in side and choosing "Store copy of file...".

Can you also drag and drop a stored local copy? It seems like you can't drag and drop a stored copy unless you've already created a parent item.

    there is no twist. You can just drag&drop a pdf to Zotero - try again and if it doesn't work describe exactly how it doesn't.

    Your answer made me think twice. I just figured out that all you have to do is drag and drop a PDF file between two entries; it creates a new entry consisting of a sole PDF file. I didn't realize you could do that.
