Screen layout on umpc 7" 800x480

Hi all, and thanks for this wonderfull tool.

I use an asus eee pc with a 7" 800x480 screen and the columns don't compress gracefully(see pic)

Can something be done so the layout is more 'fluid'?
Or is there a setting I can change somewhere?

TIA and keep up the great work.
Bobby.
  • On a side note, if the height could also be adjusted also it would be great.
There seems to be a minimum height somewhere.

  • You can gain some vertical space by pressing F11 to go to Full Screen mode in Firefox (this removes the menu bar and the file menu). In addition, you can forgo the split screen-mode by maximizing Zotero ('Toggle Fullscreen Mode' button), and by hiding it when you're just browsing (you can still capture items with a closed Zotero-pane).

With regard to the horizontal space issue, you can change the column widths by dragging the divider bars between the columns.
  • My request is actually to be able to reset the height and width of the columns as needed/wanted.

The photo depicts the minimum height /(column) width available on this device.

So while what you suggest might be 'workarounds'. I for one would prefer to be able to scale the font/width/height to what something that would be more 'workable' on this device.

It seems like there are hard coded (minimum)heights / widths somewhere, it would be nice if these were % or fully scalable by the user. A choice to change these in a setup/file somewhere would also be nice.
  • ...glad I read through the existing entries first! bobby_1290 has raised the same issue I'm facing. UMPC screen width of 800 pixels (mine's an Asus eee pc, as well) make the columns hard to use, and their widths can't be adjusted enough to be usable.

Since this is the 'Feature Request' forum, please consider users using Zotero in an 800x600 screen size (we'll deal with the fact that our screens are 480-high) and see if the three columns could be width-controlled or tabbed, as an option.

    Thanks!
  • There have been attempts on the dev list to make each of Zotero's panes more independently configurable. From this it sounds like they hope to make a go of it sometime, but also that it can't be implemented before Firefox 3.0, owing to some problems with Firefox 2.x which are slated for fixing. (Sorry this is vague and linkless. I don't have time at the moment to look up the post. It should leave you with some hope anyhow.)

Any progress on this? I'd love to be able to use zotero more sensibly in pane-mode on my 1024*600 netbook, but I can't scroll to the bottom of the panes if the parent pane is less than about 300px, which leaves about 150px space to view the web-page I'm looking at. As far as I can tell, there's no real reason the child panes have this minimum-height set - they would all still work fine if they were significantly smaller.
