Corrected records in Zotero not updated in Word

Can anybody think of a reason why a Word document would NOT update changes in a record that were made in Zotero (standalone)? The links are not broken, refresh does not give any error messages; and yet the footnotes AND the generated biblio remain just as they were before the changes were made. Maybe I should add that we're working with a shared Zotero library. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  • Did you manually edit the citation?
  • In Zotero, yes. In Word, no (at least I did not, but we're working on this with a number of people, so somebody might have). If that is the reason (that somebody edited the link in Word and that manually edited links no longer automatically update), is there anything that can still be done?
  • Right, I meant edited in Word. As far as I know, you don't have much recourse, unless you have a back up...but then you probably missed other contributions to the document.

But someone more in the know would have to respond if there is something you can do.
  • I've heard that it is possible to edit citations in the document in recent versions. I assume that it would have the same effect as the old edit-via-plugin-popup method. Have you tried checking to see if the editing panel in the Classic plugin view is open on the non-updating citations? If so, close it on one of them and try a refresh.
  • if you use the "edit citation" function in the Zotero Word plugin that will reset an individual modification (Zotero will warn you).
I believe that switching the style will actually reset all manual modifications - no warning though, which seems problematic to me.
