A check mark for viewed or a status icon

It will be great if in each row you can change a status icon showing some personal information about the current item, like "viewed", "important", "OK", "don't read", etc. just like some e-mail software (gmail, kmail).
Maybe with a new column.

    Zotero will introduce color coded tags ala gmail, most likely in version 3.5. I assume that would do what you want?

    Mmm, no. Tags are good, but they are not easy and quick like a status check marks column.
    With ala gmail, I mean the star beside the "select" check mark.
    For example, I want to separate "important" from "less important" papers in a collection, or "readed" from "to read". This can be done with a changing icon on each row.

    It's highly unlikely we're going to add a new column. You have your workflow. Other people have completely different ones. That's the point of doing this with tags. (Case in point: you give two completely different possible meanings of a star just within your own library. With tags, the meaning is explicit.)

    Also, color-coded tags will likely be assignable via keyboard shortcuts, and they might appear at the top of the tag selector, which will make them more accessible.
