Some COinS not parsed by Zotero 3.0.1

Hi. COinS that were created using the COinS generator, http://generator.ocoins.info/, were parsed and accepted by Zotero 2.1. However Zotero 3.0.1 is giving an error message for these same COinS. They seem to be mainly COinS without an author value.

An example of a COinS that is accepted by Zotero is

<span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Ajournal&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Focoins.info%3Agenerator&rft.genre=article&rft.atitle=Virginia+Reviews&rft.title=Virginia+Libraries&rft.stitle=Virginia+Libraries&rft.issn=1086-9751&rft.date=2006&rft.volume=52&rft.issue=1&rft.quarter=1&rft.aulast=Bearss&rft.aufirst=Sara&rft.auinit=B.&rft.au=Sara+B.+Bearss"> </span>

An example of a COinS that was previously accepted by Zotero but is now giving an error is

<span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Ajournal&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Focoins.info%3Agenerator&rft.genre=article&rft.atitle=2005+VLA+Conference&rft.title=Virginia+Libraries&rft.stitle=Virginia+Libraries&rft.issn=1086-9751&rft.date=2006&rft.volume=52&rft.issue=1&rft.quarter=1"> </span>

We'd love some help on this as we are adding COinS to hundreds of documents per day.

    With the previous version of Zotero they all worked. I'm using Firefox 10.0 and Zotero 3.0.1.

    We were incorrectly throwing an error when the COinS lacked an author or title and couldn't be looked up in CrossRef. This will be fixed in 3.0.2.

    Simon,

    Thank you very much for your quick response. Do you have a time frame for 3.0.2?
  • 3.0.2 will be out in the next day or two.
  • Great, thanks!
  • Hi. We have updated to version 3.0.2 and Zotero parses those COinS for articles without authors correctly--thank you.

    However I am noticing a related response with a COinS for an issue of a journal, (see http://ocoins.info/cobg.html, genre=issue). When I try to save that COinS in Zotero, a blank grey box appears at the bottom of the browser and nothing is added to the Zotero library. I would expect the addition to be similar to a book title without an author.

    <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Ajournal&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Focoins.info%3Agenerator&rft.genre=issue&rft.title=Virginia+Libraries&rft.stitle=VALib&rft.issn=1086-9751&rft.date=1998&rft.volume=44&rft.issue=4&rft.quarter=4">

    Thanks!
  • Zotero doesn't have a way of representing issues of journals, so the import fails. When Zotero gets a way of representing issues, this will hopefully work cleanly.
  • Thanks very much for the explanation. We appreciate all the hard work that you folks at Zotero have done and look forward to future enhancements.
  • ajlyon is right that we can't save this item, but we should ignore it on detect, rather than failing on save. I'll look into this.
