After upgrade to Firefox 10 I am totally lost!

Ubuntu (11.10) upgraded my Firefox to version 10.0. Then my Zotero 2.1 stopped working. Clicking the Zotero Icon (that had a warning sign ontop of it), I got a message saying something like "Zotero does not work". In my Firefox Add-ons menu it said "Zotero does not work with Firefox 10.0". So I restarted my computer. No help. Then I uninstalled Zotero, thinking perhaps it would help to reinstall it, or even better: I might install version 3.

But now the "download" button on www.zotero.org does not start an automatic download, but gives me a page from where I (on Linux) may download some zipped tar-archives. (This page: https://www.zotero.org/support/3.0) I have downloaded and unpacked that archive to /home/ME/.share, but from there I have no clue how to proceed??

I love Zotero, and I don't mind installing something manually, but I am an amateur, and I would at least need a reasonbly detailed "readme.txt"-file. Please help!

(Zotero, by the way did get automatically updated to v.3, on my Windows computer at work, after the second attempt to upgrade to Firefox 10, giving the failure "Zotero is incopatible with Firefox 10" on the first attempt to upgrade Firefox.)

That download page is temporary, but there's a Zotero for Firefox link right on that page. Click it. Accept the installation. Restart Firefox when it prompts you. You're done.

The Linux link is for Zotero Standalone, which doesn't run within Firefox.

You likely installed Zotero from addons.mozilla.org on your Linux computer. AMO takes a while to review releases, and 3.0 isn't yet available from there, which is why you didn't get prompted for an upgrade. Install from zotero.org and you'll always get timely updates.

... I do feel slightly stupid. Yes, the tar-archive was to the standalone-version. The following version, however, was automatically downloaded and installed, and seems to work perfectly:

    "Zotero for Firefox
Zotero 3.0.1 for Firefox (3.4 MB)"

You might want to edit the page https://www.zotero.org/support/3.0, just to make sure that newcomers click on the "easy-way-to-Zotero" first! (and perhaps also write something like a "Readme"-file to the standalone-version, if that needs some kind of manual installation).
  • I have a similar problem as Irisan I updated to Firefox 10.0 and zotero does no longer work for me. I upgraded to Zotero 3.0 stand alone, but no help. I still have my library, but the icon for Zotero no longer appears and the word plug in doesn't work with firefox 10.0 (or so the add on site in firefox states).
    can anyone help?
  • Which version of the Word add-in do you have installed?
Can you open Zotero from the Tools menu?
  • I tried Zotero Word for Windows integration 3.1.4
I can't even find Zotero in the tools menu, but can open it via start, programs.
I probably overlooked something ridiculously obvious, but I seem to be totally stuck.
  • Trixi: Unless you actually want to use Zotero Standalone, just install Zotero 3.0 for Firefox from zotero.org.

The latest Word for Windows plugin is 3.1.5—your plugin should auto-upgrade, but it's also available for download from zotero.org as always.
  • It sounds like you have Zotero standalone installed and note Zotero 3.0 for Firefox. These are two different programs.
Re-read the thread above and install the Firefox add-on from the Download page.
    https://www.zotero.org/support/3.0#zotero_for_firefox

You should have the 3.1.5 version of the Word plugin:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation_for_zotero_2.1#microsoft_word
  • Thank you both. I try to install Zotero for Firefox then. I clicked in the download button (http://www.zotero.org/support/3.0#zotero_30), but nothing is happening, might be my work set up. I'll try from home and it'll hopefully work.
  • there is no download button there - did you click on the link that says:
    Zotero 3.0.1 for Firefox
    ?
  • Yep that is the one
I went to zotero.org clicked the big red download button and then selected zotero 3.0.1 for Firefox and it is still trying to download
  • if I do the same for the Zotero stand alone for windows I can directly download the file

See the installation instructions. If you haven't installed Zotero directly from zotero.org before, you'll need to accept the installation via the band at the top of the browser window.
  • I just gotta try from home, I am not having any luck for the stand alone version it worked fine for the firefox one I am just stuck.
