AGU in-text citation order - incorrect

Hi, I've tried to complete a thorough search through the Discussions but I haven't found what I'm looking for, so apologies if I missed it.

My issue is the following: AGU style is very strict with in-text and full bibliographic citation. Full bibliographic citation is always alphabetical. In-text citation should be by date, not alphabetical. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I've set my default style to AGU and the standalone app seems to be working fine - it inserts the desired reference into the area, but if I'm using multiple references, they are out of date order.

Instead of [Jones, 2002; Smith et al., 1976; Warren et al., 2010], which is what Zotero is inserting, it should be: [Smith et al., 1976; Jones, 2002; Warren et al., 2010].

What am I not doing or what am I missing? Or is this an issue in the CSL for AGU and unfixable?

I'm using OSX 10.6.8, Word 2011, and the Zotero Standalone 3.0b3.2.
  • that can be done in CSL - it's just not currently for AGU. I'll double check the style guide and fix that asap. I'll let you know when the new style is up.
  • Awesome, thank you so much! The whole AGU style is confusing because, of course, their examples for one of the Author Fact Sheet PDF doesn't actually show multiple author names with different dates.... I did find one (http://www.agu.org/pubs/authors/manuscript_tools/journals/pdf/AGU_author_guide.pdf) that has examples on Page 3.

I'm a bit dense but I'm guessing that once you've got it up, I can download and install it (it's been a long day, sorry).

Thanks so much - you have saved many hair-pulling hours. :)
  • a fixed style is now up. You can update your local copy by re-installing it from the repository at zotero.org/styles
Updating an existing document for this specific issue may be a bit more complicated - I'm not sure what the current status of this is. Try switching to a different style and back. If that doesn't work, come back here for more instructions.
  • Just re-installed AGU style and so far, so good. I only had a few citations already added in-text, so I was able to remove those prior to updating and everything seems to work well right now.

    Thank you so much!
