ACM translator doesn't get abstract

Hi,

I'm using the ACM DL translator for the first time today, and it's not pulling in the abstract with the rest of the metadata. My understanding is that it is supposed to. I am clicking the little icon Zotero puts in the address bar of the web page.

This is with Zotero Standalone 3.0b3.2, via the Zotero plugin version 3.0b3 in connector mode. Firefox 9.0.1, MacOS 10.7.2.

Sample metadata page where this happens: http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?doid=2063212.2063225

I am logged into the ACM Digital Library using whatever magic my institution has implemented. I didn't enter a username or password.

Let me know how I can help diagnose.

yeah, we're aware of that - the abstract isn't behaving properly, I can give it another try when I get a chance, but I'm not too optimistic I can get it to work.

edit: if you switch to single page view you'll get an abstract reliably - the problem is the tab feature.
  • Thanks for the workaround -- that works great.

Where do the translators live? Is that something I can look at and tinker with?

Also, is there any opportunity for translators to offer feedback either when the page is loaded or when the import icon is clicked? E.g., it'd be great if Zotero could say "try the single page view, this won't work" if it noticed tabbed view was on.

    Thanks!

  • the translators are individual .js files in the translator directory of the Zotero folder.

  • This seems to work now in the tabbed view (Zotero 3.0.3). Thanks!! You've saved me a step (of remembering to change to non-tabbed view before saving).
  • right, yes - I fixed this a while ago the translator now does the changing to tabbed view (internally, before translating) for you. Forgot to post here.
