Group members cannot see subfolders

HI there,

We're fairly new to Zotero, so hopefully this is a quick fix. One of our members is organizing the structure (subfolders) in our group library, and she has created five folders. Problem is, none of the rest of us can see them. Is there some setting we haven't enabled?

Thanks!
Lindsay
  • No, there's no setting - it should just work - are you sure that syncing is working correctly? That is, are you seeing items that have been added from the user creating the subfolders after s/he has created those folders? (Which, for the sake of correct terminology, are (sub)collections, and note folders - their behavior is much more like itune/gmail collections than like folders on your desktop)
  • Yes, we are all syncing (had multiple computers in the room when testing) so the subcollections (thanks for the correction) should be working right?

We are all hitting the green button and it is completing its syncing cycle. There are five subcollections the rest of us cannot see...

    Thanks!
  • how do things look online? You can look at your group library under "Groups" on this page.
  • When I look on my page, I only see the subcollection folder I added to test. When I looked at the other computer, my colleague has 5 subcollection folders (all of which she created). I am waiting to hear back from her as to whether or not she can see my test subcollection folder...
  • wait - you see different things online? Are you positive you have the same group? I have a hard time seeing how that could ever happen.
I can't look at your group, but please do mention the name so that one of the devs can actually see what's going on.
  • Adam,

Yes, we are seeing different things online. Yes, we have the same group (CD Literature Review). I have just learned that one of my colleagues can see what I post, but I cannot see what she posts...trying to figure out if something is wrong in her settings...

    Thanks,
    Lindsay

What is the username for this other person?
  • fcheslack Zotero Team
You are in the same group and should have access.
To be clear, you looked at a page like http://www.zotero.org/groups/digital_humanities/items
    and saw different things?
  • Yes, that is correct. I understand the should part....
  • fcheslack Zotero Team
And you still don't see the collections at
    http://www.zotero.org/groups/48086/items ?
  • Actually, I can see the ones I put in (those are visible), but she put in others that no one else can see.

Then it is unlikely she successfully synced after adding them.

edit: get confirmation from her that she successfully synced and can see the collections you added.
  • Yes, she can see the collection I added. I just cannot see what she added.

That she can see the collections you added in her client and the collections she added on the website.
  • Yes, that is correct. She can see everything, but the rest of us can only see what I've added (she and I are the only ones who have added anything).

Unless there is some extremely strange caching going on there is no way for the website to show you both different things, so I'm inclined to think there is a miscommunication somewhere between you two.
  • Okay, thanks for your help. We'll just keep trying to figure it out.
  • For what it's worth, my colleague and I are having the exact same issue.
