Need recommendation for storage service that has excellent search function
I've been relying on Google Docs for storing PDF files, because (1) its search function is stellar, (2) it has good web-based interface, and (3) I can maintain a multi-nested hierarchy of PDF files. Google Docs' search function is really amazing. It even extracts text from scanned PDF files on the fly and searches them as well.
But Google Docs' lack of two-way sync-ability is making my workflow less than optimal. I have to download PDF files to my DropBox first, so I can annotate seamlessly on any device that I'm on (be it my desktop, laptop or iPad). I then move the annotated PDF file to Google Docs' appropriate folder.
So, is there a third-party storage service that has search function comparable to Google Doc's? Neither DropBox nor SugarSync does. (It looks like these services can't even search PDF text, let alone scanned PDF.)
Am I stuck with Google Docs for now if I insist on having a good search function available?

If not, you're probably better of asking on a more general site - isn't there a whole "alternativeto" webpage, for example?
